CD Writers For Backup And Storage

Computers have become an important part to practically every activity in life. We use computers to communicate, work, socialize and even purchase food. They are such a common part of life that losing a computer can feel like losing a good friend! While you can't replace or back up a friend, you can back up files and all of the information stored on your computer.

There are several ways to back up the information stored on your computer. Some computers back up automatically, just locate the folder which holds the backup information. If you are unsure of your computer's automatic backup capabilities or where the information is stored then you will need to back up your files manually. As an example, if you have an important document in Microsoft Word, make sure that you save it in more than one location on your hard drive.

However, if you lose your whole hard drive it doesn't matter if you've saved it in an hundred locations -- your whole computer will be lost. If you want to avoid this problem you need to save your files in a location that is external to your computer. Floppy disks are one way to do this. However, floppy disks only work for small files. Another problem associated with floppy disks is that they can be unreliable and can crash just like a computer.

USB drivers are another common tool used to back up computer files. A USB drive is small and can hold large amounts of information. They work like floppy disks because you can use them to store files and you can also delete the files and move them around in the USB. All newer computers have USB ports which are compatible with any USB device.

CD ROMs are another popular medium for storing files. A CD ROM is slim and easy to store and can hold large amounts of information (up to 700 MB). This allows large files or a large number of files to be stored on one CD ROM. After you have added files to a CD ROM you won't be able to add files or delete the files that you have stored. This is a security measure so that nobody can tamper with your work.

However, it's annoying when you want to replace a file with a newer version. If you want to be able to change the information stored on your disk you may want to use a CD RW. The RW in CD RW means that it is a re-writable disk. With a re-writable disk you can add, change, and delete files on your CD ROM. When you are using a re-writable disk make sure you don't accidentally rewrite something that you thought you had permanently stored.

Both types of CDs work on most computers. All you need to start backing up your information is a CD and a CD burner. Most computers that are on the market today come with pre-installed CD burners. If your computer does not have a CD burner you can buy an external CD burner for not much money. A CD with important files stored on it needs to be stored in a cool, dry place where it will be free from harm. Scratches can ruin the disk so make sure it is in a safe place.
