CD Burners
In recent history owning copies of your favorite artists' music cost a pretty penny. You would have to buy it
from a music store or from online music stores. A copy of the music was at least ten dollars and came with an
average of 12 to 18 soundtracks. Lately things have changed. Now with a computer and an internet connection you can
listen to your favorite music on several sites such as MSN radio, Launchcast, Live365, or Shoutcast. The only
problem with these sites is you can't always get your favorite songs right away -- instead you have to wait and
hope your favorites are played.
Another development in today's music scene is the advent of music download sharing programs and websites. These
programs are free and allow you to download songs to your hard drive or music player.
If you prefer to keep a collection of music on discs you will need one important piece of equipment: a CD
burner. These allow you to archive the music on CDs and store them and organize them according to your preference.
CDs are a great way to archive your music and pictures so that if your computer crashes you will still have copies
of them.
CD burners are very easy to use. They come in two forms: independent and attached. The independent CD burner
plugs into your computer via a USB port. The other CD burner is attached. It is inside the computer and has a
drawer which slides out. The CD is then inserted and automatically drawn back into the computer.
Remember the days of cassette tapes and players? They allowed you to record songs off of the radio or dub songs
from one tape to the next. A CD burner works the same way. They allow you to copy from CD to CD and from hard drive
to CD.
A CD burner also requires you to have software. Many of these software programs are free -- most of them you can
download from the internet. Some examples of these programs are Cheetah CD Burner, DeepBurner, Burrrn, Windows
Media Player and Xduplicator. There are other CD burning software programs which can be purchased. The free
features work well but the programs you buy have more options.
CD burners can also do much more than just copy audio. CD burners can also be used to copy documents, files,
game, programs and a variety of audio files (MP3, WMA, and WAV). If you purchase a CD burner with DVD capabilities
you will be able to copy videos and movies as well. Some people copy their favorite CDs and DVDs to a blank CD just
in case their original is ruined. Most DVDs you burn on a CD burner are recognized by your home DVD player so you
can download movies and watch them on your television.
Many people argue that CD burners infringe on copyright laws. However, the CD burner allows people to access
their favorite music and videos for a much lower price. There are many ways to utilize them legally and many sites
that allow you to download items legally. Reputable websites will explain all of the restrictions and what you need
to do to make sure you are within the limits of the law.
